Greg Headen has a diverse and impressive career journey. He was born and raised in Siler City, NC, to a father who owned laundromats, car washes, and a used car dealership, and worked in manufacturing facilities overseeing machinery. His mother worked in floristry and managed a local drug store. Greg obtained an accounting degree from Appalachian State University, where he met his wife, Shelly. Greg began his career as a CPA at McGladrey, now RSM, an international CPA firm in Greensboro. He later became a partner of The Colonial Group, a managing general insurance agency, where he served as CFO for 23 years. Greg’s remarkable journey in the corporate world continued until 2022, when he decided to sell his interest in The Colonial Group and pursue cattle farming. He raises over 100 Angus beef cattle in Guilford and Rockingham counties.

Greg’s wife, Shelly Kates Headen, was born in the mountains of Western North Carolina to a public-school principal and a teacher. A summa cum laude graduate of Appalachian State University, Shelly began her career at the international CPA firm RSM in Winston-Salem before serving as a corporate accounting manager and recruiter. After eight years in the pharmaceutical industry, she found her most rewarding role as a stay-at-home mom to her three daughters, where she remained deeply involved in the Oak Ridge community through the PTSO, youth coaching, and church volunteering.
