Greg Headen has a diverse and impressive career journey. He was born and raised in Siler City, NC, to a father who owned laundromats, car washes, and a used car dealership, and worked in manufacturing facilities overseeing machinery. His mother worked in floristry and managed a local drug store. Greg obtained an accounting degree from Appalachian State University, where he met his wife, Shelly. Greg began his career as a CPA at McGladrey, now RSM, an international CPA firm in Greensboro. He later became a partner of The Colonial Group, a managing general insurance agency, where he served as CFO for 23 years. Greg’s remarkable journey in the corporate world continued until 2022, when he decided to sell his interest in The Colonial Group and pursue cattle farming. He raises over 100 Angus beef cattle in Guilford and Rockingham counties.

In December of 2022, after experiencing the frustration of garage door repairs in the home where he raised his three daughters, Greg was inspired to start working in the garage door industry. In 2023, Greg founded Top Dog Garage Doors, a company committed to honesty, fair pricing, and exceptional customer service. As the owner/operator, Greg instills these same values in his team of technicians. Shelly Headen

Owner/Operator

Greg’s wife, Shelly Kates Headen, was born to a high school teacher and principal, grew up in Southern Virginia, and relocated to North Carolina during high school. Shelly’s academic journey led her to Appalachian State University, where she graduated summa cum laude and ranked second in the College of Business. She also began her career at McGladrey, now known as RSM, an international CPA firm in Winston-Salem, NC. After leaving the public accounting firm, Shelly spent eight years as a corporate accounting manager at a pharmaceutical company and later became a recruiter in the accounting field. However, her most rewarding role came when she decided to become a stay-at-home mom to her three daughters. During this time, she served as co-treasurer of her children’s PTSO, coached her daughter’s youth cheerleading team, and volunteered at church.
